| |  Man Killed Over Internet Posts on Sexuality Affidavit: Man Killed Over Internet Posts on Sexuality By Jeremy Maready THE LEDGER Published: Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. Last Modified: Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 2:40 a.m. LAKELAND | Nicholas Lewis was stabbed in the neck with a butcher knife because he wrote postings on the Internet that his alleged attacker was gay, according to a probable cause affidavit released recently from the Lakeland Police Department. Lewis was found dead by Lakeland police at his home at 3150 Pyramid Parkway about 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 2. Andrew Lee Lewis, who is not related to Nicholas Lewis, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Tampa and charged with the 19-year-old's murder the day after the death, according to the Lakeland Police Department. Details in the affidavit reveal how police were led to tracking Andrew Lewis, beginning with a call to police in Norfolk, Va., from Andrew Lewis' father, William. It's unclear why he contacted Virginia police. William Lewis told police his son called to tell him of the stabbing, the Internet postings and that he had stolen Nicholas Lewis' Jeep and cell phone, reports said. Andrew Lewis, 23, also told his father he had been in a recent accident on Interstate 75 near Lutz. That information was forwarded to the Lakeland Police Department. LPD Officer Jason Leggett followed up on the call, confirmed the accident, went to Nicholas Lewis' home and found him dead, police have said. An alert was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal's Office. Authorities learned Andrew Lewis had been arrested in Pasco County early Nov. 3 after the car accident. He had already posted bail and been released from jail before the warrant for his arrest in the stabbing was issued, according to the U.S. Marshal's Office. By that time, the Marshal's Office knew Andrew Lewis' car was wrecked and his options were limited. U.S. marshals canvassed mass transportation stations in the area and learned Lewis had purchased a ticket for a bus departing later in the day. The U.S. Marshal's Office arrested him Nov. 3.
