11.13 Police seize more than $200K after routine traffic stop in Rosenberg

ROSENBERG, Texas—A routine traffic stop in Rosenberg led to the recovery of a big chunk of change Thursday.

Police say they found this money in a hidden compartment in the car.

Rosenberg police arrested Juan Castro Rodriguez, 38, for money laundering over $200,000, a first-degree felony.

Officers stopped Rodriguez on Highway 59 at Louise Street.

Upon speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer learned they were traveling from North Carolina to Mexico.

But the officer said the driver and passenger told conflicting stories when questioned further.

The officer called out the canine unit to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle.

The dog signaled an alert for narcotic odor, so officers were able to conduct a more thorough search.

Officers said that’s when they found a hidden compartment in the car with a large amount of cash inside.

Police seized both the money and the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
