hit the props!
post ur results
Think were alot of people are geting confused is aplying the gradient overlay just to the text not the whole layer. Once you have your text layer and your crown layer hit cntr then click you text layer. You should now have the text selected, then to also select the crown you need to hold cntrl AND shift and select the crown layer. You should now have every thing you need selected. Then just create a blank layer and edit fill. I no alot of you guys are past this but i saw some early people strugging so thought i would point it out for the peeps.
Good attempt for a first tutorial i got roughly the same results after a bit of playing around and im a bit off a noob.:sly:
also no two of these will be the same because noise is allways different, my want to tell people to mess around with the random button to get roughly the same. Hope i helped a bit for the less advanced peeps

I registered just to answer to this topic.
The finished one looks really nice.
But I can't get past the 1st part of this tutorial? I select the Text Layer + The Shape Layer and then what?
Sorry, but you didn't make a really clear tutorial.
Thanks.

That makes no sense.
Selecting or not the 2 layers, the new layer will be blank anyways. And if filled black, the full thing will be black.
That's where you aren't clear.
Thanks again.
''Selecting or not the 2 layers, the new layer will be blank anyways. And if filled black, the full thing will be black.''
Thats my problem aswell :( Can someone help me abit more? :(

ok man. u have ur txt: lets say its "DP" now u create a shape of a crown on top of ur "D" and then u SELECT the txt ("DP") and u also select the CROWN. keep the selection and create a new LAYER....
then u go to the option EDIT>FILL..>BLACK

then u go to the option EDIT>FILL..>BLACK
Lol, still, when I fill that new layer, it comes completely black.. Nothing like your picture in tutorial :P I must be doing something wrong, as ive kept trying this last 2 hours atleast, lol.
EDIT; You do mean by selecting this; *press text1, press CTRL down & then press Shape layer*, right? Yes im rookie.. :D
Dyna~Mic
05-09-2007, 01:43 PM
its supposed to be black... after step one u have to do step 2.
thats when u apply the gradient.
Ok, BUT then I make that gradiend thing, it makes it into that black box, not in the text.. Oh well, quess its supposed to be like that..
But, whats the idea of selecting those 2 layers? as i could just make new layer and fill it > same thing happens anyway
Dyna~Mic
05-09-2007, 01:47 PM
because then u have one layer with the txt and the crown.
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2002/weirdis4.th.jpg (http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=weirdis4.jpg)
Thats what Ive done, except I havent filled it yet, but everything ok?
Dyna~Mic
05-09-2007, 01:58 PM
yes and now select what u got and apply the gradient
DarkPrinzz
05-09-2007, 01:58 PM
I've done it.
Now i have 4 layers:
Gradient
Shape
Text
BackGround
???
Dyna~Mic
05-09-2007, 02:03 PM
now follow the tut.
all u need in the end is
gradient (black orange, reflected)
noised gradient with the three filters applied
normal black and white gradient.
and the border layer with the settings that are shown above.
all these have are in the shape of the txt+crown.
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/922/weird2hx0.th.jpg (http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?image=weird2hx0.jpg)
Now thats what I got, which I quess, is fucked. :)
Dyna~Mic
05-09-2007, 02:07 PM
seriously u have to READ what it says... it says SELECT the TEXT2 layer and THEN APPLY THE GRADIENT...
now if it still doesnt work i am sorry but its really understandable... read it carefully...

I must be doing something wrong. But when I duplicate the letters/apply the gradient the gradient just takes up the whole screen. It doesn't just fill the letters. It doesn't fill the letters at all.

I did this tutorial 3 times before I finally got something that looked similar to our friends thing. My boyfriend had to give me his outside opinion since he is more talented with Photoshop then I am. My biggest problem was when I got to "Text 3" I couldn't figure out how he got "Text 2" to show through and then I realized that was because it was on top. The tutorial says to put "Text 3" on top of "Text 2" - NO! You want "Text 3" underneath "Text 2."
Here is what I got:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/Mysticdragons007/ACLogo.png
I haven't played around with the contrast or anything, but it looks decent. I will try to help recreate a tutorial that is a little bit easier to follow for those of you who are still interested.

NO! U WANT HAVE TEXT3 ABOVE ALL OTHER LAYERS AND U WANT TO SET THE FILL oF TEXT3 TO 000000% AND THE FUCKING PUT THE GRADIENT ON COLORDODGE...
SERIOUSLY THIS IS NOT MY FAULT.

Dyna~Mic
05-10-2007, 09:37 AM
please PUT TEXT 3 ON TOP! and set the fill of txt3 layer to ZERO!
Come msn? I could send you PSD, and you could check whats wrong in it.. Because text3 is on top, and fill 0%.
btw, I made that thing with magic wand, because as others have said, in your tutorial, that thing didnt work on my PS.. Could it be because you use CS3, and we use CS2? =S

Well, i'm kinda glad to see i'm not the only one having problems with a good final result.
I guess if you want, you could re-write this tut. Or maybe tell me the steps and i'll try and make it clear for everyone.
Just my thought tho!
today i'll try again..
EDIT****
Ocean Ripple really f*ed up my picture too. The final result was not even close.
And I SWEAR I followed all steps.

word up.
but be understandingly and consider the fact that i never made a tutorial b4.
I really think that tutorial is very good, but on first and second step, theres some problems, maybe you explained the things you did somehow wrong.. The most easy way would be, that you make it one more time, save PSD, and send it. So we could just check all the layers, and figure out whats wrong in ours.

Dyna, I did set Text 3 Fill to 0% and I still didn't get the same result you did. However, as you can see by my finished results by putting Text 3 behind Text 2 I got a similar result so I guess it doesn't really matter.
Also, for those of you who don't know how to apply a gradient to text you have to use the selection tool. Once the little ants are marching around your text you should have no trouble at all. I left mine selected the entire time in my last go at the tutorial and it worked much better.
I will work on redoing the tutorial the way I did it tonight.
Thanks so much for your original tutorial Dyna!

Im not pissed at your tutorial, but what im really pissed about, is your attitude. You havent even tried to solve our problems with it, you just tell us to read it again and again, which obviously isnt working; i havent seen none successful logo, except yours; Theres something missing in that tutorial.
It has nothing to do with skill levels and all that bullshit.

Hi everybody,
alright, I read all of the comments here becasue I am stuck on the first step were it tells you to select text1 and the shape and then create a new layer while still keeping them selected. first of all it cant select them and create a new layer. Second, When I do it, it just blacks it out.
also, on the second step it tells you to duplicate "the" layer. What is "the" layer?? is it the text+shape? can I just make a smart shape out of the text+shape? Do I have to rasterize the text2 layer in order to apply the gradient? When I do apply the gradient, it fills in the whole screen not just the text.
If anyone can create a new tutorial for this or even better, email me they finished PSD so I can learn how to do it that would be awesome.
Btw, this is a really cool tutorial, its just that the first steps are impossible to understand.
thanks
