Today we will learn how to make a text effect which looks like crumbled gold. The tutorial is very easy if you have the needed components.
This will be your final result...
http://www.webdesigndev.com/tutorials/pstexteffect/8.jpg

And now lets see how can we achieve this look.
Create a new layer - 450*300 px, and fill it with the following colour: #3c0101. Of course you may choose any other hue.
Select the typing tool (or press "T") and type any word in the middle of the canvas. The choice of font here is very essential, do not choose any thin fonts or fonts with many twirls, it wont look good for this particular effect. We need a very bold font with slight crumbly effect, such as "Defused", which is what we used here, download it free at dafont.com It doesn't matter what colour you chose for typing as we will overlay it by a pattern.

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/01.jpg

Go to Layer >> Layer Styles >> Blending Options and apply carefully these settings.

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/2.jpg

For Bevel and emboss: Highlight mode colour: #e5d266. Shadow mode: #5a3015.

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/3.jpg

The texture for Bevel effect is called "RustTileBump" and is pre installed in many versions of PS already. If you don't have it, it wont be a problem to download it from any PhotoShop free resources website.

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/5.jpg

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/6.jpg

If you miss any of these steps, you will not get the desired result. So far your result should look same as the image example below:
http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/1.jpg (http://www.webdesigndev.com/tutorials/pstexteffect/1.jpg)

Now go to Layer >> Flatten Image and flatten both layers. Now you no longer have multiple layers and can work with one canvas.
Go to Filter >> Render >> Lightening Effectsand set these settings for "Omni" light type.

http://www.webdesigndev.com/resize.php?src=tutorials/pstexteffect/7.jpg

If you followed all the steps correctly, you should receive same image as we shown on the example in the beginning, only with a different text, of course. Enjoy creating!

1. Write your text.

http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial1.jpg (http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial1.jpg)

2. Rasterize the text layer.

3. Use the polygonal lasso tool to select a part of the text.

http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial2.jpg (http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial2.jpg)

4. Cut out the selected part, ctrl-x (or cmd-x on Mac).

http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial3.jpg (http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial3.jpg)

5. Paste the cut out text on a new layer above the original text layer, ctrl-v (or cmd-v on Mac).

http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial4.jpg (http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial4.jpg)

6. Go to Edit -> Transform -> Rotate and rotate the cut out part of the text a few degrees. Then move the layer 1 pixel to the left and 1 pixel down. (Feel free to play around however you like, just make sure you like the result!)

http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial5.jpg (http://veroaero.com/images/gtutorial5.jpg)

7. Merge down the cut out layer onto the original text layer.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 as many times as you like!

Have fun!

Step four:

In a new layer, brush #14881C as seen on the picture guide.
Set layer's blending mode to Linear Burn.

http://www.netcades.com/learn/Reportfrombattlefield/images/4.gif

Step five:

Add soft smokes around by creating white random shapes using Marquee tool then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Your smoke will not look like mine so no settings will be provided, adjust your own settings to fit your own work.
Opacity level should be low so the shape is transparent. Settings in this tutorial is 34%.

Create a new document, mine is 300x300 pixels. Set your foreground color to #bb6b0c and background color to #d28714 and draw the shape on which you want the bling bling effect to be applied. I'm using a butterfly shape from the shapes available under the Custom Shape Tool. Double click the shape layer you just created in order to see the Layer Styles and choose Gradient Overlay from the options available. Now from the Gradient picker choose the first gradient available (foreground to background), leaving the other options intact.
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_00.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_00.jpg)
Apply the Drop shadow Effect with the opacity set to 40%, color set to #4b545d, Distance 10px, Spread 0px and size 60px.
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_01.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_01.jpg)
Now apply a Bevel and Emboss effect with the Style set to Inner Bevel, Depth 810%, Size 8px, Soften 0px; from the shading options set the Angle to 135 degrees, Altitude to 30 degrees, Highlight mode set to Overlay, color white and 100% opacity, Shadow mode set to multiply, color black and 60% opacity, and a Gloss Contour like you see I've drawn mine in the image below.
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_02.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_02.jpg)
On the same layer aplly a Satin Effect with the Blend mode set to Overlay, Color white, Opacity 25%, Angle 19 degrees, Distance 27px, Size 16px and from the contour options available select the Ring style, like you see I've done in the image below:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_03.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_03.jpg)
Create a new layer above the shape layer. Now CTRL+click your shape layer:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_04.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_04.jpg)
Choose Select > Modify > Contract and choose 7px then click OK. Your image should look like this:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_05.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_05.jpg)
Now press the D key to reset your colors to default black and white and using your Paint Bucket Tool fill the layer you just created with black. Now double click the layer you just filled with black and from the options available choose the Outer Glow Effect with the Blending mode set to Overlay, Color white, Opacity 75%, Noise )%, Spread 65% and Size 3px, leaving the other options intact.
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_06.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_06.jpg)
Now apply a Stroke effect with a Size of 1px, Position set to Outside, Blend mode set to Soft Light, Opacity set to 80% and Fill Type set to Color Black:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_07.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_07.jpg)
Now CTRL+click this black layer and create a new layer above it.
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_08.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_08.jpg)
Select the layer you just created and choose Edit > Fill and for the Use option choose Pattern and select the pattern we created at the beggining of this tutorial (it's the last one available).
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_09.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_09.jpg)
Click OK, then CTRL+D to deselect and there you have it:
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_bling_tutorial_10.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_bling_tutorial_10.jpg)http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/320/bling_your_logo.jpg (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4031/3555/1600/bling_your_logo.jpg)
You cam play with the options above and add other effects like shining stars and lighting effects and obtain amazing bling bling effects:
